Emperor

There is much confusion surrounding the common names of our Tropical reef fish and its no wonder when you can catch a “Sweetlip“, a “Tricky Snapper“, a “Red Throat Emperor” an “Emperor”, a “Spangled Emperor”, and even a “Long Nosed Emperor”, all of which are members of the Lethinus family. And then someone will even call it a Snapper. Phew !

And to make matters even worse we have the highly sought after Red Emperor which is actually a Lutjanus and related to the Mangrove Jack and Fingermark.

Use your imagination when you next hear the name – who really knows what fish you are catching?
